Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin is a cattle farm located at the foot of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, near the town of Corubande (in the province of Guanacaste), and approximately 20 miles from Liberia Airport. The Hacienda borders the Rincon de la Vieja National Park. The farm is dedicated to raising beef cattle and workhorses. It is also dedicated to the conservation of the dry tropical forest and to commercial reforestation. They focus on being a self-sufficient community that uses energy production methods that are ecologically correct. For example, the water heaters use solar energy and electricity is produced by a water wheel. As for natural attractions, there are rivers, waterfalls, natural pools, thermal waters, volcanic mud, tropical forests, birds, mammals, reptiles, insects, and more in the area. Hotel amenities include the Hacienda Restaurant (serving dishes with beef, chicken, pork, fish, and pastas), Havienda Bar, three natural waterfalls, Red Pond, natural river pool, volcanic mud pool and thermal water, and hotel swimming pool (using only natural water--no chemicals are added). The hotel is surrounded by gardens and has views to both the volcano and the Pacific Ocean. For over 100 years, Hacienda Guachipelin has been a working ranch. The property comprises 1600 hectares of land, of which 700 hectares are set aside for the conservation of the tropical dry forest, 575 hectares are used as pastureland, and 325 hectares are being reforested with species in danger of extinction. All rooms feature ceiling fans, desks and chairs, Internet access, private bathrooms with hot water. The hotel has 40 rooms housed in simple buildings with wide verandas.
